New app pays consumers to go into shops

Published 02/07/2012

A new smartphone app launched pays consumers for going into shops in a bid to tackle online retailing.

The app was tested in trials recently but has now been rolled out across the UK and will work in 22,000 branches of 70 retailers which pay 5p to 25p for your visit.

Once shoppers have 'checked in' to stores they are sent cash-saving offers and information on deals from rivals in an attempt to lure them away.

"It's a win-win situation for consumers. Anyone who doesn't have the app is missing out on money for nothing," said Quidco managing director, Andy Oldham.
