Samsung Galaxy Note II to launch in the UK in October
From next Monday, UK customers will be able to purchase the successor to Samsung’s surprisingly popular Galaxy Note tablet/smartphone hybrid. The Galaxy Note II will be available from all major UK carriers, as well as the official Samsung store located in London’s Westfield shopping centre.
The Galaxy Note II sports a 1.6 GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, a 5.5 inch HD Super AMOLED display, combined 3G (including HSPA+) and 4G LTE connectivity, 8 Megapixel rear camera, 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera and three internal storage options of 16, 32 and 64GB. It will come complete with Samsung’s ‘S Pen’ stylus and will initially be available in ‘Marble White’ and ‘Titanium Grey’ finishes.
Android fans will be pleased to know that the Note II is shipping with the latest Android 4.1 ‘Jelly Bean’ operating system pre-installed, complete with Samsung’s own Nature UX modifications, so no frustrating wait for the latest Android version.
The original Samsung Galaxy Note sold extremely well, surprising many critics who felt the 5.3 inch display would prove to be too big for smartphone buyers and too small for tablet buyers. It turns out there are many people who are comfortable with this larger form factor, so much so that Samsung have actually increased the screen size for the Note II to a palm-stretching 5.5 inches.
With its slightly larger 5.5 inch display, the Galaxy Note II sits comfortably between the 4.8 inch Galaxy S III smartphone and the 7 inch Galaxy Note 7.0 tablet. Samsung have succeeded in creating a stylish and consistent array of products that from the next generation Galaxy line up, catering for every screen size up to 10 inches, the point at which you start to move into laptop territory.
Pricing and availability for individual UK carriers is not yet available, but now that the Samsung have gone public with the launch date we can expect to see a flurry of press releases and announcements from the likes of Three, Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone and O2 over the coming days.
EE, the UK’s first 4G LTE provider, is yet to announce the Galaxy Note II on their upcoming 4G LTE network, although it’s likely that they will, considering they already have the LTE equipped Galaxy S III in their lineup.
