Computer coding kids from Co Londonderry have been named runners-up in the biggest youth technology event in the world.

Reuben Ackermann (11), his younger brother Cian (9), and seven-year-old Ciaran Long came second in the games category at the Coolest Project Awards in Dublin.

The youngsters learned about coding as part of after-school activities. Reuben and Cian, who are from Coleraine, are both pupils at Irish Society Primary School, while Ciaran, who is from Portrush, is at Coleraine Academical Institution.

The Coleraine contingent was accompanied at the event by Camilla Long, an organiser of Coleraine CoderDojo.

They were competing against around 500 youngsters from around the world.

The boys developed a stop-motion animation, Creepers Revenge.

Other Coleraine entries included a website for a bed and breakfast in the area, several games and a mobile app.

Coolest Projects is organised by the CoderDojo Foundation, which aims to educate children about coding.
