Manchester Airport runway is reopened after snow clearance

Published 21/12/2009

The only runway being used over the Christmas period for flights at Manchester Airport was cleared of snow last night, officials said.

Flights in and out of Manchester were delayed for 90 minutes yesterday morning because heavy snow continued to fall.

But a spokesman later confirmed the runway was clear and flights were beginning to move.

He said: “Runway One is now open and flights are starting to move.

“It's freeing up and there is a bit of space on the apron.

“We are still keeping an eye on the weather and the situation could change but everything's moving now after things were held up for about 90 minutes this morning.

“There will be some delays but we are stressing to travellers to contact their operators if they are travelling over the next few days.”
