Video: New Presbyterian moderator Rev Noble McNeely - 'Marriage is for one man and one woman'
The Moderator-Designate of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland has said he is against same-sex marriage.
The Rev Noble McNeely, who was selected on Tuesday night, said on Wednesday: "All people are to be cherished by God and the gospel is for everyone.
"I do appreciate some people with same-sex attractions have had traumatic experiences, but I would hold the conventional view of the Church, which is based on scripture, which is that marriage should only be between a man and a woman."
The 63-year-old minister received 10- votes out of 19 and will be the Church's second Moderator from First Holywood Presbyterian Church and the 178th since the election of it's first Moderator in 1840.
Rev McNeely said he was sincerely humbled to have been appointed.
