Dramatic take on life in Sixties
Older women in Londonderry are set to stage a drama examining the pressure on young women in the 1960s to conform to social norms.
The Learning Age Project — a programme of learning for the over 50s — will present the production of Same Old Moon by Geraldine Aaron.
The play is being jointly performed by Top Women from the Top of the Hill in the Waterside and The Happy Go Luckies from Creggan.
Performances will take place at the Millennium Forum Studios on Thursday 5 and Friday 6 May at 7.30pm.
The play tells the story of a young girl, Brenda Barnes, as she tries to follow her aspirations of becoming a writer.
The story spans from the ’40s, through to the ’60s and concentrates on attitudes towards the hopes and dreams of young women during this period.
It also tells of the hardship faced by Irish people trying to find work in London at the time.
