Alber Elbaz has announced plans to "bring back real drama" to the fashion industry.

The Lanvin designer staged a presentation of his Spring/Summer 12 collection at Carondelet House in Los Angeles recently. He's already put on a similar event in Paris and explained he's keen to get people interested in style again.

"Geoffrey Beene told me that fashion is not show business, it's just business," he said. "These days there are too many reality shows, and I watch many of them, but I am trying to bring back real drama to fashion."

Among those who attended were Demi Moore, Elle Fanning, Dita Von Teese, Katie Holmes, Zoe Saldana and Jessica Alba.

Kate Hudson also came, and made quite an entrance. She was late, with Alber telling guests he was waiting on one attendee but felt he would have to start without her.

The actress then came through the doors with her fiancé Matt Bellamy, who she had a baby with earlier this year.

"Oh my god. I'm so sorry, I was breast-feeding," she explained.

Stylist Rachel Zoe added: "It's a legitimate excuse."

The catwalk display then started. Models who had walked in the Paris Fashion Week show strutted their stuff, with Alber offering up his views on Los Angeles style.

"LA is a city full of divas, but I think they are just sensitive men and women. My clothes are for making women feel strong and beautiful," WWD quotes him as saying.

"My clothes are for mothers and daughters, I love all women."

The group were then invited to dinner, where bowler hats could be pulled down from where they were attached to the ceiling and worn.
