Cate Blanchett made a breath-taking appearance in a daring backless dress in London last night.

The actress braved the freezing cold temperatures at the UK capital's premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey held at the Odeon Leicester Square.

Cate cut a goddess like figure dressed in the floor length white Givenchy gown.

From the front the dress appeared to be a modest creation, long sleeved with a high neckline, however Cate turned to reveal the modern and fashionable cut away back.

To break up the all white ensemble, Cate's gown had two black straps added onto the shoulders.

The 43-year-old chose a small boxy clutch in white to complete her graceful and angelic appearance.

Hair and make-up was kept classic, with Cate opting for a casual pulled back hair style and neutral eye make-up tones.

A natural red blush was seen on the actress' cheeks with the shade matching her sheer lip stain, which was only visible on closer inspection.

Cate added a minimal, but none the less stand out, Van Cleef & Arpels ring to complete her look for the event.

The Australian star, who plays elf queen Galadriel in the new Hobbit movie, was joined by her cast mates on the green-coloured carpet for the premiere.

Legendary actor Sir Ian McKellen cut a dapper figure wearing an Unconditional suit for the London debut of his film.

Martin Freeman, James Nesbitt, Andy Serkis and Britain's Prince William also attended.

Taurus:

An embarrassing secret will come to light, affecting your reputation. Somebody who once admired you will now turn away in dismay. Instead of trying to win their affection again, lay low for a wee while. You'll make a much better impression by letting your actions speak for themselves. There is a chance this relationship is beyond redemption. If your former friend decides to keep their distance, you will have no other choice than to respect their feelings. Better luck next time.More
