Charlize Theron has shaven off the majority of her hair for a movie role.

The stunning actress is sporting a closely cropped do after shearing off her famous blonde locks last week.

On June 6, Charlize was spotted entering a hairdressing salon and hasn't been pictured without a hat since. However, a trendy grey fedora she wore in Beverly Hills yesterday revealed her super-short buzz cut.

A spokesperson has confirmed that Charlize has shaven her head in preparation for her role as Furiosa in the upcoming movie Mad Max: Fury Road.

"It's been three years: It's time to skin this cat already!" Charlize said while promoting the movie recently. "I'm very excited about it."

The action movie will begin to film in Africa next month.

Punk pop princess Avril Lavigne has also taken to the clippers and debuted a trendy undercut.

The Canadian singer has experimented with multiple styles over the years, including brightly coloured hues in pink and green and contrasting shades of black and blonde.

Now the 27-year-old has returned to a more natural honey blonde shade, but shaven off the hair on the left side of her head, sweeping the remaining locks across to the other side to show off the new style.

Yesterday she teamed the look with just a slick of black gothic eyeliner and a leather jacket.
