Jessica Chastain has revealed she likes her red carpet outfits to tell a story about herself.
The 35-year-old actress shot to fame last year with roles in The Help and The Tree of Life.
She has now been nominated for a best actress Oscar for her role in Zero Dark Thirty, about the hunt for Osama bin Laden.
The star is getting ready to dazzle on the red carpet at the ceremony on February 24.
"I feel fashion and acting both tell stories, and it's storytelling that's always interested me as an actress", Jessica told British Look magazine.
"I love fashion; it makes a statement about you. Being able to go to film festivals and premieres is an exciting part of the job. I loved the [yellow] dress Zac Posen made for me for the 2011 Cannes red carpet. It was like a ray of light."
But the Lawless star is still adjusting to life in the spotlight. The flame-haired actress confessed she finds it strange to be called a sex symbol, as when she was a child she was bullied for her looks.
"When someone tells me I'm a sex symbol I'm like, 'What?' But I'm learning to be more comfortable in the limelight," she confessed.
"At school, I was bullied and tormented because I had pale skin and red hair. That kind of thing leaves its mark on you and there's a part of me that can still be very anxious."
