Dolly Parton: I used matches as make-up

Dolly Parton uses "burnt matchsticks" as makeshift eyeliner.

The legendary country star recalled the unconventional items she used as make-up when she was growing up in Tennessee.

Iconic blonde Dolly's religious family were against the use of cosmetics and so her first steps into the world of beauty products were taken in secret.

"Until I was a teenager, I used red pokeberries for lipstick and a burnt matchstick for eyeliner. I used honeysuckle for perfume," Dolly confessed in her official memoir. "We were raised in the Pentecostal Church of God and they believed that wearing make-up was sinful. My Grandpa Jake, my Mama's dad, was a preacher. So I had to sneak around and make myself look all pretty but then wash it off before they caught me."

Dolly's recently penned book entitled Dream More: Celebrate The Dreamer In You, divulges some of her secrets to looking fabulous. Dolly's large bosom means she can't take part in any strenuous exercise. She also doesn't follow any diets, insisting she is just lucky that she looks so good.

"People think I'm a vegan. I'm not. Or they think I take lots of vitamins. I don't. Or they think I have a daily exercise routine. But I certainly can't jog or I'd black both my eyes and beat myself to death," Dolly joked. "So where does all my energy come from? Well, I'm blessed that I do not require much sleep, which is a very good thing for me."
