Florence Welch used to wear brown lipstick when she wanted to "look like a lady".
The flamboyant singer has always loved fashion, although her quirky look has changed a lot over the years. When she was growing up the star put a lot of thought into the way she was perceived and decided using certain cosmetics would improve her standing with other people.
"If I wanted to look like a lady I'd wear black palazzo pants with an oversized white shirt and brown lipstick," she told the latest edition of Elle magazine.
The 26-year-old star also had fashion idols when she was growing up. She loved a movie about teenage witches and styled herself in their honour.
Musicians were another source of inspiration for the young star.
"I wore weird stuff as a kid in the 1990s. I was obsessed with the Spice Girls and a goth film called The Craft, so it was a mix of black lipstick, Buffalo boots, velvet flares and china bumps in my hair like Björk," she laughed.
