Gemma Arterton is more comfortable when she looks “messy”.
The actress is famed for her English rose looks and recently stunned on the BAFTAs red carpet in a nude and white Celia Kritharioti gown.
However, the 27-year-old star feels more comfortable when she’s not glammed up for a glitzy event.
“I’m much better messy than I am neat and glamorous,” she confessed to British newspaper The Times.
For her latest film Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters the pretty brunette has to deal with some blood and gore special effects.
Gemma is used to it after starring in 2009 thriller The Disappearance of Alice Creed which saw her covered in fake blood and gave her the perfect chance to prove looks aren’t important.
“[I don’t mind] getting spattered in the face. [I prefer to] just not giving a f**k [about my looks],” she explained.
“People told me not to do [The Disappearance of Alice Creed], but I put my foot down.”
Whereas many actresses focus on their looks, the star wanted to prove a point with her movie choices.
It could have something to do with her upbringing, as Gemma comes from a family of confident women.
“It was never explicit feminism and The Female Eunuch,” she revealed.
“Instead the attitude was simply: ‘You’re a girl. Girls are cool. And girls can do anything they like.’”
