Glenn Close dresses nothing like her Damages character in real life.
The 66-year-old American actress starred as alpha lawyer Patty Hewes in twisting legal drama series Damages from 2007 until 2012.
Glenn stole some of Patty's power-suits and designer items from the costume department while making the show.
"Yes, I did - because I hate shopping for myself," Glenn told the US edition of Elle. "People don’t believe me, but I really hate shopping. The thing about me keeping Patty’s clothes is that she dresses like a grown-up and can appreciate a knit Loro Piana sweater."
Glenn has decided to auction off 380 pieces from Patty's iconic wardrobe. The pieces up for grabs include designer togs from Armani, Prada, Balenciaga and Christian Louboutin. The profits from the auction will go to the charity Glenn founded in 2010, BringChange2Mind, a US campaign to eradicate the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illness.
"Now we're auctioning it all off, including three pairs of Patty’s iconic Oliver Peoples glasses," she continued. "Everybody who loves the show will recognise them. I always said [Patty's shopping philosophy is that] she just had the greatest personal shopper. I can’t see Patty Hewes wandering around Bergdorf [Goodman]."
Glenn's Damages co-star Rose Byrne has previously described her as "goofy". Rose says Glenn pulled off the cruel high-powered business woman image perfectly, and revealed she's much more laidback in real life.
“Glenn is so sweet. She’s really goofy and kooky,” Rose told Manhattan magazine. “She’s a character, a real card. She’s more eccentric than you’d think.”
