Miss Ireland Laura Patterson has been forced to pull out of a charity mini marathon in Calcutta due to ill health.

The 19-year-old beauty queen from Londonderry was due to take part in the St Valentine’s Day event to raise money for the street children of Calcutta.

But she had to cancel after taking ill and will be replaced by Miss Ireland runner-up Tania Zorilla.

A spokesman for the Miss Ireland Pageant said Laura — who attends the University of Ulster at Magee — was not seriously ill. He said: “It is nothing serious but she has a condition that is on its way to being resolved.”
