Kerry Washington enjoys the "art" of fashion.
The actress has had a meteoric rise to fame after starring in Oscar-winning movie Django Unchained and ABC hit TV series Scandal.
Her late introduction to the world of celebrity and fashion means the 36-year-old star has a different kind of appreciation for it.
"I wasn’t one of these girls in high school that thought about it at all. I went to an all-girls school where you wear your pyjamas during finals week. But because I came to it later in life, I really see the art in it," Kerry told Refinery 29. "For me, if I go to a Marc Jacobs show, that’s like going to the biennial at the Whitney or going to a new exhibit at LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art). So I see the art of it and I enjoy it in that way."
Kerry has taken a break from hard-hitting roles for her latest project, comedy film Peeples. In the movie Kerry got the chance to work alongside the legendary Diahann Carroll, who the star names as one of her style icons.
"Today I'm wearing Tamara, Monique Lhuillier, the necklace is Lamont, and a Movado watch. I don’t know who these shoes are, Louis Vuitton maybe?" Kerry explained about her outfit. "Diahann is one of my style heroes, she-roes, for sure. She is so elegant and always has been. As for designers, I don’t have one particular design house that I’m committed to or loyal to. I think because I came to this later in life, I really came to fashion through my career."
