Lea Michele has discussed her fashion ethics and why there is no "need to be wearing a fur".

The Glee actress is increasingly viewed as a style icon thanks to her role as the face of L'Oréal and her appearance on a string of magazine covers.

Lea is sticking to her non conformist views about fashion.

"Food is for nutrition, so if that's your preference, OK, but I don't think there's really a need to be wearing fur," Lea explained to FLARE magazine.

"[I have tattoos] I think about 12. But they're all very, very, very little. I have a butterfly with my mom that we got together. This heart on my finger that I got with [my] cousins, that I'm actually in the process of removing, 'cause it didn't take well to the red."

The star appears on the cover of the magazine's January 2013 edition wearing a retro Alberta Ferretti dress and showcasing Stephen Webster jewellery.

She describes her individual off-duty style as being fuss free and low maintenance. Lea admitted many of her fashion hits are the work of her "amazing stylist" Estee Stanley.

"I'm very simple with clothes and I don't like to wear a lot of make-up. I really feel like I'm the only girl who will do a photo shoot and want to take all the hair and make-up off. 'Cause I like to let my skin breathe and you know, I'm pretty minimal in my wardrobe. I'll do a little shop, stock up on some things, and that's it. I mean, when I go to do events and stuff like that, I definitely feel I can bump it up. I have an amazing stylist, Estee Stanley, who is so wonderful," Lea gushed. "She always makes me feel so comfortable and beautiful in my own skin, and the dresses are just, like, extra points."
