Lucy Hale used to be scathing about people who didn’t dress in high fashion, until she realised most people don’t.
The Pretty Little Liars actress is the height of edgy cool when she is in character as Aria Montgomery. She loves getting to wear the blend of punk and gothic on the show but off screen she is much more toned down.
“In real life I just wear what I want. I used to think Jennifer Aniston always looked really boring, but I’ve realised that is actually how people, me included, dress in real life. But, for events, I have a lot of help. I’m 24 years old, so I’m trying to evolve my style slowly and gracefully. I’ve hired a stylist called Penny Lovell and she’s British and really cool. She’s styled Emma Watson and people like that,” she enthused to Company magazine.
The 24-year-old actress used to suffer from an eating disorder and has previously admitted going days without having any food.
She is now recovered and embraces her figure, refusing to get obsessed with the Hollywood ideal of a woman’s body. Lucy hopes by being honest she will help other young women in a similar position.
“I’m very happy to talk about this. Once my body image struggles were out there, I realised that my experience might help someone else,” she explained. “I feel pressure all the time to look a certain way, so if I can relieve that pressure for someone else, then great. You’re in front of a camera all day, so of course some days you wake up and feel a bit gross, but in the past I’ve gotten better. My body is normal and I’m not trying to prove anything.”
