Mad Men's signature style has inspired a second collection for Banana Republic following an "overwhelming response" to the first line.

The hit show's costume designer Janie Bryant has teamed up with the chain store once more to create a 1960s style capsule collection.

Following the success of the first Mad Men line, the new range features dresses, cardigans and capris for women and polos, vests and blazers for male fans.

"There was such an overwhelming response to the first collection that we knew we had to put our heads together for a new collection for spring," Bryant told USA Today.

The 40 new pieces will feature modernised references to the 1960s era like bold cocktail jewellery, abstract floral prints, pops of bright pink, tailored suiting and body-conscious.

Similar designs can be seen on Mad Men's iconic characters Betty Draper Francis played by January Jones, Don Draper who is portrayed by Jon Hamm and Joan Holloway - played by Christina Hendricks.

However, Janie explained that she didn't want to create carbon copies of the programme's standout costumes.

"This collection is about taking a vintage look and updating it with a modern twist, using favourite trending colours and prints, like the bright pinks and large florals and fitting them on a '60s silhouette, like a capri pant or nip-waist dress," she said.

"[It's] about appealing to the contemporary customer that loves the aesthetics of the show and the 1960s."

Prices range from $35 to $355.
