Naomi Watts says she bears no resemblance to the "dolled-up movie star" seen on the red carpet.
When the Australian actress is off duty, she doesn't bother to get glammed up at all.
As a result she is hardly ever hounded by fans and can live her life in relative anonymity.
"I never get recognised on the street. I'm lucky that way. People see me as the dolled-up movie-star type on the red carpet, but in real life, I don't look anything like that," Naomi explained to W magazine. "I blend easily into a crowd."
The Oscar-nominated star of The Impossible is one of the Hollywood heavyweights chosen by the publication for their Best Performances of 2013 feature. In the accompanying images taken by renowned fashion photographer Juergen Teller it is hard to believe she is as invisible to passers-by as she claims.
In the deconstructed and stripped back 1970s-themed shoot, Naomi shows her naturally striking good looks dressed in an Emilio Pucci silk dress and Belmacz yellow gold and diamond earrings.
Naomi claims that while she blends into the background, her husband, actor Liev Schreiber, is the one with the stand-out appearance.
"My husband, Liev Schreiber, is really distinct, and quite often people push me aside to get to him. They'll say, 'Isn't that the guy…?' and list off all his credits," Naomi revealed. "They will then ask, 'Can you take a photo of us?' They have no idea who I am."
