Nicole Richie reveals scent inspiration

Nicole Richie

Nicole Richie has revealed her debut scent was "inspired by her childhood".

The reality TV star-turned-fashion designer launched her first fragrance in the US in September. The perfume, entitled Nicole, is a mix of fruity, floral, and musky notes, which the star explained evoke special memories of her time growing up in America.

"This fragrance is very special to me. It was inspired by my childhood. I grew up with a traditional Southern mother who loved beauty. Nicole is reminiscent of the scent I associate with my mom and my memories of her - watching her get ready, and her beauty regime," Nicole revealed to Birchbox. "She would never use just one scent. It was all about the blending and layering of many different lotions, oils, and fragrances."

The style-conscious star was careful to create a perfume that is true to her tastes. She admitted to obsessing over every last detail of her debut scent, right down to the beautifully designed bottle.

"This scent is something that I am truly proud of and something that I myself love to wear. I was very closely involved in the creation of Nicole and took a hands-on approach with its development, helping with everything from the notes that are featured to the packaging and the products' design," Nicole revealed. "I love that the bottle speaks to my personal design aesthetic and that it's something that would look beautiful on any vanity table or in any bathroom."
