Olivia Palermo prefers "real" street style to red carpet outfits.

The style icon and fashion blogger admitted she won't be covering the Academy Awards on her sartorial website because she doesn't look to celebrities for inspiration.

The New York socialite explained that she thinks girls who work in the fashion industry are more credible because they style themselves.

"I don't think our website will cover them [the Oscars], because for me it's more about the real girl, someone who's in fashion, not necessarily someone who's a celebrity. I kind of like to have everyone's own personal style take on it and girls from all around the world, because I think those are the cooler girls," she told fashion website Styleite.

"But I'm sure you'll see some great stuff. I'm sure you'll see a few pieces that are on the runways now, but they'll most likely be pieces that the design houses have created specifically for the occasion."

Speaking from the front row at Tibi's New York Fashion Week show, Olivia also named some of her favourite labels for the coming season. The 25-year-old said she is rooting for British designers and that she is a massive fan of UK style.

"Obviously being in the Tibi family is nice. I'm obsessed with everything that she does. Peter Som is always one of my favorites," she said.

"And Mischa who designs for Noonoo, the new label, and she's fantastic. She's definitely brought her British aesthetic to clothing in New York, which is nice. I'm a big supporter of British fashion."
