Penélope Cruz has been named the new brand ambassador for Spanish leather goods brand Loewe.

The actress has reportedly signed a three-year deal with the company to be the face of their luxury range.

Her first campaign shoot will be for the Spring 2013 collection which will be photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott and is set for release in January next year.

Loewe's creative director Stuart Vevers has revealed why they tapped the sultry brunette star for their brand.

"Penélope is Spain's most famous woman," Stuart told WWD. "For us to collaborate feels right and natural."

The brand's current fall campaign features notable Spaniards from the world of film, art, modelling and music.

The signing of Penélope is reportedly a continuation of Loewe's theme in this area.

The Vicky Cristina Barcelona actress has been photographed with items from Loewe's collections on numerous occasions in the past.

Recently she has been seen carrying Loewe's Flamenco Bag.

Penélope joins a roll call of fashion's A-list who have been chosen to represent the brand through the years. Icons including Kate Moss, Christy Turlington, Gisele Bündchen, Yasmin le Bon, Linda Evangelista and Stephanie Seymour have all worked with Loewe in the past.
