Rihanna's make-up artist Karin Darnell has revealed the secrets to the star's "waterproof" X Factor look.

The singer performed her new single Diamonds on the UK version of the reality show last night.

During the appearance, Rihanna appeared behind a wall of water which moved during the song to leave her soaking wet by the time she finished.

"Everything I used had to crème based or waterproof!" Karin explained to British website ELLE.

Karin revealed how she focused Rihanna's look on her bright fuchsia lips. She used MAC Chromagraphic Lip Pencil in Process Magenta to outline her pout, which she filled in with a Mandy lipstick from The Make Up Store.

The eye make-up chosen by Karin to withstand the soaking was a Lord & Berry black pencil liner and layers of trusted mascara Hypnose by Lancôme.

"[I] smudged [the black pencil eye liner] into lash line and the eyelid before I blended with a flat brush," Karin explained.

To get a flawless and streak free complexion, Karin applied a foundation by Dolce & Gabbana, followed by a cream blusher from Illamasqua.

Karin explained how she incorporated the "wet look" into Rihanna's eyelids and cheekbones with a Laura Mercier Crème Eye Colour in Platinum that she used as a highlighter.

While Rihanna's make-up stood the test against the heavy down pour on stage, her hair and wardrobe didn't fare so well.

The star's floor length black lace dress went see through and her perfectly coiffed hair was completely flattened.

The Barbadian beauty covered her bad hair moment with a hat as she left the X Factor studios after the performance.
