The event, held at Cipriani in Manhattan, served as the official start of New York Fashion Week last night.
Sarah Jessica had a key role during the night's proceedings as she took to the stage to honour her friend designer Kenneth Cole for his contribution to the fight against AIDS. After her gushing speech about her friend's 27 years as an AIDS activist, the actress presented Kenneth - who is also the chairman of the charity - with an award.
Sarah Jessica has recently teamed up with Kenneth on a design collaboration for the cause. The duo has created a collection of limited-edition handbags to support AIDS research. The first of the 20 pieces designed, a snakeskin clutch, was auctioned off at the event last night. The rest will make their runway debut at the Kenneth Cole Fashion show today, where spectators can bid on the coveted designs with 100 per cent of the profits going to the charity.
The Fall/Winter 13 Kenneth Cole show sees the designer return to the runway after a seven-year hiatus. He previously described the piece he and Sarah Jessica have collaborated on as "the ultimate women’s evening bag”.
