Selena Gomez: I'm a fashion underdog

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez feels like the "underdog" in her Adidas design collaboration.

The superstar revealed more about her new role as style icon and designer for the teen-focused Neo label.

The 20-year-old, who already has design experience with her own brand, Dream Out Loud, explained how while this was a helpful foundation, she quickly learnt designing for the mega brand was completely different.

"They know what's going to happen in 2014!" Selena revealed to Teen Vogue while shooting her new campaign in New York City. "They know all the hip stuff, so I almost feel like the underdog coming in and learning about the whole design process."

Selena discussed her rise as a trendsetter. The singer-and-actress discovered her passion for fashion when she donned a Marchesa gown for the first time. She has since gone on to dazzle in dresses by the likes of Dolce &Gabbana on the red carpet, although she prefers a laidback look.

"[I'll] always be a jeans and T-shirt girl at heart," Selena giggled.

Last month, Selena's on-off boyfriend Justin Bieber was also named a spokesperson for the brand.

Justin announced his two-year partnership with the brand in which he will also serve as an Adidas Neo style icon and guest designer for the fall 2013 collection.

Selena is developing her fashion and beauty empire at a super fast rate. Last year, she enlisted her fans to help source ingredients for her namesake fragrance, which was launched exclusively at US chain store Macy's and on macys.com in the spring.

Selena's Adidas Neo campaign launches in February.

You never do anything in moderation. Attend every fun party, accept every juicy offer and try all the delectable treats spread before you. Avoid unpleasant people and activities like the plague. This should be a time of enjoyment. Leave your list of chores at home. You can always attend to these jobs at another time. If you have a chance to show your creative work to a publisher, manager or agent, go ahead. This is also a great opportunity to go on job interviews, auditions and first dates.More
