Solange Knowles loves orange lipstick

Solange Knowles says bright lipstick is what "works" for her.

The sibling of Destiny's Child singer Beyoncé Knowles revealed the secrets of her distinctive bold style.

Solange isn't a slave to beauty trends, preferring to go with what she knows suits her best.

"I'd much rather wear lipstick than foundation, eyeshadow or anything else," Solange stated to the UK edition of Marie Claire magazine. "It works for me. I feel like orange is universal. I wear it throughout summer, autumn and winter..."

The star has been signed as the new muse for French label Kenzo. The company's creative directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon believe Solange, who is a singer, DJ and model, is the perfect face for the brand's new diverse and "cool" direction.

Solange doesn't follow strict style rules herself, although she has favourite designers who she returns to for failsafe wardrobe options.

"[My favourite labels are] Kenzo, Opening Ceremony, Suno, J. Crew, Diane von Furstenberg and Tibi," Solange revealed. "Recently, I've been wearing a lot of denim. I never thought that I'd love denim, and now I can't get enough of it. People always associate me with mixing prints, but actually I love a head-to-toe print, too."

Solange has some hard and fast rules for pulling off all-over pattern. Her top tip for making mismatched prints work is to remember to match the material in your outfit.

''I don't have a formula. I think I've been doing it for so long now that I have a good sense about what works and what doesn't. One tip is to try and be aware of fabrics," the style icon explained. "If I'm wearing silk trousers, I try to keep the top silk. If you're mixing prints, having a uniform texture helps.''

You never do anything in moderation. Attend every fun party, accept every juicy offer and try all the delectable treats spread before you. Avoid unpleasant people and activities like the plague. This should be a time of enjoyment. Leave your list of chores at home. You can always attend to these jobs at another time. If you have a chance to show your creative work to a publisher, manager or agent, go ahead. This is also a great opportunity to go on job interviews, auditions and first dates.More
