Tom Ford slams Princess' hat

Britain's Princess Beatrice shouldn't have worn her much-talked-about royal wedding hat, according to Tom Ford.

A total of 36 Philip Treacy hats were worn at the wedding of Britain's Prince William and Catherine Middleton back in April. Princess Beatrice of York's quirky design was mocked by some critics, and American fashion designer Tom agrees that the 22-year-old should have opted for more subtle headwear.

"I'll probably get in trouble for saying this, but at the royal wedding, one of the princesses wore a now-very-famous (or infamous), Philip Treacy hat - that hat wore her," he told vogue.co.uk.

"Now, Isabella Blow, a woman those of us in fashion knew well - had she worn the same hat, it would have looked great. She would have worn the hat. She knew what she was about, what she wanted to express in fashion."

Ford went on to describe his perfect customer, and it seems she's a bit like the designer himself.

Philip previously defended the British royal. The hat creator argued that such cruel remarks about the head gear were unnecessary.

"I felt hurt for her. She is only 22 and there was a little bit of bullying going on. I didn't give a f**k about 140,000 bloggers. In the future, we'll look back and think she looked wild," he said.

"Princess Beatrice is Queen Victoria's great, great, great, great granddaughter and looks like Queen Victoria. I thought of her as a beautiful, exotic, Victorian doll. I thought I was making a hat with a bow on it."
