Zooey Deschanel "finds" her characters through their costumes.
The 32-year-old actress says fashion is one of the things that really helps her when she is on film or TV sets. Discovering how her character dresses gives her an insight into their personality.
"Every day you can define your identity. That can be so helpful as an actor, too. I shop for characters and I can really find them through the costuming. Ideally, what you want are clothes that enhance who you are without telling you who you are," she told Look magazine.
However, Zooey isn't always a fan of the outfits she has to wear on screen. She was seen in a barely-there get up for her TV show New Girl, which she found tough.
"If I could, I would be in a turtle neck or a floor-length skirt all the time. So to be in an S&M style outfit took a lot of bravery. I had to wear a leather bondage thing," she laughed.
