Female perspective on Belfast’s sexual history

Belfast's sexual history is laid bare in a book published today on efforts to control women's private lives.
University of Ulster lecturer Dr Leanne McCormick has unearthed evidence of untold stories of sex and the city.
And while residents on affluent stretches of the Lisburn Road may be surprised it was once a centre for prostitution, the book also examines wider efforts of the churches and the state to dictate how women should behave.
The book ‘Regulating Sexuality — Women in Twentieth Century Northern Ireland' is being billed as a groundbreaking examination of the attempts to control female sexuality from the 1900s to the 1960s.
