Gloria Hunniford’s thanks to Belfast Telegraph for cancer fight
Gloria Hunniford has joined Action Cancer in thanking the Belfast Telegraph for its support for a life-saving screening programme.
Notices containing information of Action Cancer’s free Breast Screening service were placed in the newspaper to encourage women to go for free check-ups.
More than 2,600 women signed up to take advantage of the service which is available to women in age groups which fall outside the NHS screening programme.
The charity stated that for every 1000 women screened, seven new breast cancer cases are detected. Ms Hunniford lost her daughter Caron Keating to cancer in 2004.
Since then she has campaigned on behalf of cancer charities to raise awareness of the disease.
Kerry McCrea of Action Cancer said: “Any one of these screenings can be life-saving so a huge thank you to all involved for your support.”
More than £30,000 was raised by Gordons through raffles and the sale of pink ribbon badges.
