Thursday Feb 9 2012
Weekly focus on who's who in our local estate agents
Name Steven Poole
Age 27
Where do you live? Newtonabbey
Married? Lives with partner Laura
Where do you work? Sales and Lettings Manager at Lough & Quay Ltd
What brought you into the business?
From a young age my family have been involved in buying low-cost properties and renovating them for resale. I studied Estate Management in Belfast then completed a BSC hons degree in Property Investment and Development at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown. I joined Lough and Quay on my placement year and fell in love with the residential sales and lettings side of the business.I am now an established member of management.
Who has inspired you in the property world?
My family has always encouraged me with my career, and my MD Kelly McAllister, who has an exceptional work ethic, has been a great source of encouragement.
What do you have sitting on your desk?
My trusty Blackberry, my diary, a cup of coffee and a to-do list.
Downtime is?
Time with my partner, going out for dinner, meeting friends and family. I go to the gym as often as I can.
Do you do lunch?
Lunch is a rare treat; it’s usually a sandwich on the go.
What qualifications do you think are essential for estate agency?
I don't believe qualifications are essential. The essential skills for any estate agent are good communication, being pro-active and driven.
What did you want to be when you were a child?
I had longed to become a physiotherapist for a football team or a teacher, as I had a passion for mentoring and educating others.
If you could give it all up tomorrow, where in the world would you move to, and what would you do?
I’d love to open a café or bistro somewhere with constant sunlight and heat like Australia or America.
Any unfulfilled ambitions?
I keep threatening to do a sky dive, but my partner will not allow me.
The most common misconception about estate agents?
Some people tend to think of estate agents as there for the money. This is simply not the case.
Be realistic about your budget. There is no point in having a beautiful property if you cannot enjoy life outside of your home.
