Little Emily-Jane Templeton was welcomed into the arms of her mother Claire at the Ulster Hospital on January 15, 2012.

Weighing 7lbs 1oz, she is the first child entering the fold and was cuddling up to her proud mum after a difficult birth.

Claire (35) said she had a bit of a traumatic start after she was brought into hospital on Saturday, January 14, for induction before being brought up to the delivery suite the next morning.

“It was actually a bit dramatic. I was given gas and air and then it stopped working,” she said.

“The baby was having difficulty coming out because it was in a difficult position.”

But Emily-Jane is now doing well — born at the hospital at 10.07pm.

Claire said she was then kept in for observation for several days under the expert care of the hospital’s nursing staff.

“The staff have been absolutely fantastic,” she added.

“They kept a close eye on me, and luckily everything was fine.”

As for any more bundles of joy, Claire said there are no plans for another baby just yet.

“Let’s just say I won’t be queuing up to repeat the experience.”

Partner Gary Peters is now proud dad to little Emily-Jane and was there when she came into the world. “Gary was there for the birth and stayed with me the whole time,” added Claire.

The Belfast couple, who both work for Tesco, now can’t wait to get home.

As for gatherings and having relatives over to their home, Claire said she would see how it goes.

“I’m still a wee bit shaky, but we probably will have a get-together at the house at some stage.”
