Portaferry woman Mary Coulter lives a long way from Australia, but the internet ensures she can see her beautiful granddaughter Sophia as much as she wants.
Mary's son Stephen (36) and his wife Jenni (33) are enjoying every moment of being parents to Sophia Emily, who weighed 6lbs 8oz when she was born at the Mater Private Hospital in South Brisbane, Queensland.
"She looks like her mum," Stephen said.
"We've had a few sleepless nights but we're lucky she's pretty chilled.
"Being parents is great."
The Coulters' are both marketing managers and moved to Oz nearly seven years ago, after leaving Jenni's native Manchester.
"The lifestyle and climate in Queensland is a big draw," Stephen said.
"It's hot every day and most of the year it's perfect. It's expensive, but the standard of living is great.
"We're all Australian citizens, so Sophia is technically first generation Australian.
"She will learn about where her family is from and we'll get her a European passport too. She's very lucky."
Stephen said as his young family is on the other side of the world it's nice for his mother in Co Down to be able to keep up to date with Sophia's progress via Skype.
"Skype is the way we keep in contact with mum," he said.
"She got it installed recently and loves it. It's a great way for staying in touch.
"We do go back and forward on trips but the internet makes regular contact so easy.
"We like to head back to Northern Ireland and England when we can.
"This October we are travelling via Dubai, so we are very excited.
"Sophia is a well-travelled girl."
Proud first-time grandmother Mary said she loves to see how Sophia is doing and can't wait to give her a cuddle this autumn.
"She's gorgeous," Mary said.
"I'm looking forward to seeing her again. I can't wait."
Your youthful enthusiasm prompts you to do something very daring. Whether it's submitting creative work for review, asking for a first date, or applying for a plum position is immaterial. The important thing is to take a chance on your happiness. Gambles have a way of paying off. A youngster's progress at school is cause for celebration. It's important to enjoy the happy moments, because they will sustain your young friend through the low points. This is one of the most valuable lessons you will impart.More
