Co Down couple Andrew and Joanne Wills first met while watching Glenavon at Mourneview Park seven years ago.
As the months passed, their paths kept crossing on nights out and, in 2008, they got together and started to go on dates.
Love blossomed for the well-matched couple and then, over Joanne’s birthday week two years ago, Andrew asked her to be his wife.
Andrew, a warehouse operative from Banbridge, and Joanne, a journalist from Dromara, were engaged on February 8, 2010, after two years of dating.
“I had taken a week off work over my 22nd birthday and Andrew took some time off too,” Joanne said.
“He suggested going for a walk at Murlough beach in Newcastle.
“When we were there, he got down on one knee and proposed. It was a complete surprise.
“I wasn't expecting it at all, but, of course, I said ‘yes' straight away.”
The couple then set about arranging their wedding.
Their marriage service took place at Second Dromara Presbyterian Church in front of 100 guests.
Their reception was held at The Old Inn, Crawfordsburn, and Joanne was particularly proud of the cupcakes and wedding cake she made with her mother, Amanda.
“The service was brilliant,” Joanne added.
“I was nervous during the rehearsal, but I was so calm on the day. I was on a complete high.
“My favourite hymn, In Christ Alone, was sung at the service and we had tea in the church hall afterwards, before heading to The Old Inn, Crawfordsburn.
“It was really lovely day throughout.”
Later, at the reception, their first dance as Mr and Mrs Wills was to The Beatles hit Something.
The couple said they thoroughly enjoyed their relaxing wedding day and that their honeymoon on the Amalfi coast in Italy was “fantastic”.
“It was like something you dream about,” Joanne said. “We had a great time.”
Joanne explained that, as she is from a farming background and Andrew hails from a town, they had to come to a happy compromise on the location of their first home together.
After careful consideration they decided to move to the village of Kinallen, outside Banbridge.
The couple are enjoying married life and keeping busy with their two pet dogs and the four show hens they keep at their home.
They have two entries to the upcoming Balmoral show and are blissfully happy together.
“We want to thank everyone who came to our wedding and supported us on our day,” Joanne said.
“We had a wonderful day and married life is great.
“It feels like we’ve been married for a long time — in a good way!
No matter how stringently your loved ones warn you, that won't stop you pursuing a romantic interest. You're utterly captivated by someone who exudes warmth, charisma and drama. The two of you get along very well, but beware of the financial toll this relationship will take. The object of your affection likes expensive things. If you're not able to provide them with the luxuries they crave, there will be problems. Then again, you have the potential for being a good provider, so all may be well.More
