Desi and Victoria Gibson, from Co Down, got married in a vintage-themed wedding on March 8.

Through family, the couple, from Ballynahinch, had known each other for quite a while when they got together for keeps in December of 2010.

“We had known each other for years and had been on the odd date, but began to date full-time in December 2010,” Victoria said.

They had fallen in love and then, in May 2011, became engaged following a trip to Belfast for Victoria's birthday.

They were standing in front of the City Hall, in the heart of Belfast, when Desi asked Victoria to be his wife.

“We were in town shopping, because it was my birthday and he proposed to me,” Victoria explained.

“We went and got the engagement ring straight away.”

The pair arranged their March 2012 wedding together.

They exchanged vows and married at Edengrove Church in Ballynahinch in front of 80 wedding guests.

Their relaxed reception followed at The Old Inn, Crawfordsburn.

“We were not nervous at all on the day,” Victoria added.

“It was a really lovely service and a very relaxing day.

“Our wedding had a vintage theme throughout. My dress was vintage and we also had birdcage lanterns, vintage-style roses and a horse and carriage.”

Victoria (24) and Desi (37) took to the floor at the reception for their first dance as husband and wife.

Their song was the romantic Bryan Adams hit from the 1990s, (Everything I Do) I Do It For You.

Following their wedding day, the new Mr and Mrs Gibson flew out to the sunshine of Malta for their honeymoon.

“We had a lovely time in Malta,” Victoria said.

“The weather was really great and we did lots of sightseeing. It's such a lovely place.”

The Gibson's are now home in Northern Ireland and enjoying every moment of married life and this exciting new chapter in their lives together.

“We want to thank our families and everyone who came to our wedding and helped celebrate with us,” Victoria added.
