Owen and Emma Kinghan spent their big day in the Big Apple. The urban fairytale setting of New York was exactly what the plumber and personnel officer from Randalstown had dreamed of for their October 27 wedding.
Their relationship began back on Christmas Eve of 2005, with a first date at O'Kanes pub in the town.
“My brother was Owen's apprentice, so he set us up,” Emma explained.
“I worked in Manchester at the time, so we did the long-distance thing and then I moved home and we bought a house together.”
Then, following a house party, Owen chose the setting of Randalstown viaduct to ask Emma to be his wife.
“He got down on one knee,” Emma said. “There was tears and laughter. Our Jack Russell, Lucy, was barking away in the background.”
The happy couple's beautiful daughter, Addisyn, arrived on De
cember 20, 2008 and as their family was taking shape, it was time to arrange the wedding.
“Our civil ceremony was beautiful,” Emma added. “The minister incorporated Addisyn into the vows.”
The couple then had photographs taken in Central Park before jumping in a yellow cab to Times Square and onwards to Grand Central Terminal.
Afterwards, the wedding party of 14 close friends and family made its way to Ruth's Chris Steak House in Manhattan for a celebration meal.
“The food was great, our first dance was Rule the World by Take That and we all had a wonderful time,” said Emma. “We experienced all the seasons while we were in New York. There was sunshine, torrential rain and a freak snow storm, but our day was exactly what we had wanted it to be.”
Addisyn flew home with her grandparents, allowing Emma and Owen to enjoy another week in America by themselves.
Once the couple were back in Northern Ireland, they threw a big party at Truffles in Randalstown to celebrate their marriage. There are now plans afoot to add to the family.
“Married life is great,” Mrs Kinghan added. “We are happy and planning for another baby to join the crew.”
This isn't a good time to make travel plans. Weather conditions and work responsibilities have a way of wreaking havoc with your schedule. Wait another few days before putting down a hefty deposit. Working behind the scenes will yield significant rewards. If someone asks you to serve as their assistant, go ahead and accept. The pay will be excellent and there will be a lot of fringe benefits, too. Don't talk about a neighbour's private life in mixed company.More
