Lisa Watters and Simon Smyth got married on May 14, 2011 at a beautiful civil ceremony in the Tullylagan Country House Hotel, Cookstown.

The newlyweds, from Magherafelt and Belfast, are made for each other.

They are both sporty types, both 33-years-old and have similar jobs in IT in London.

The couple first met at a friend’s engagement party in Belfast and less than five years later, they are now married.

“We met at the party and then again six months later when Simon was leaving Northern Ireland to work in London,” Lisa said.

“He asked me out for dinner. Our first date was at Mal Maison and then we did the long-distance thing for a year, before I moved over to London, too.”

The couple's relationship blossomed and it was on a trip to New York that Simon popped the big question.

“Simon proposed last Easter at the top of the Rockefeller Center. I was so surprised.”

The couple then set the wedding day for May 14 and enjoyed a a beautiful service and reception with 125 guests.

“We had a beautiful civil ceremony in the Tullylagan and then it was straight from the ceremony into the bar.

“It was typical Northern Ireland weather — rainy with sunny spells.

“When we were out having photographs taken we all had to run for cover when the rain started.

“All our friends and family were there.

“We had a really brilliant day.“

Lisa had three bridesmaids and her little nephew Tyler (2) was pageboy.

“He slept through the service,” Lisa said. “My bridesmaids were my sister Andrea, my schoolfriend Wilma and another friend, Louise, who flew back from Australia to be with us on our big day.”

Lisa said it was wonderful to be surrounded by the people she and Simon love the most.

They watched on as the couple took to the floor for their first dance to Hey There Delilah by the Plain White T's.

“Our band, The Usual Suspects, were amazing. At the end everyone was asking for just one more tune. We didn't want the party to end.

“We had really good craic. All our family and school, uni and London friends were there.”

Lisa and Simon are just back from honeymoon in Mauritius and enjoying married life.

“It's such a nice island,” Lisa said.

“The sun was shining the whole time.”
