Mark and Laura Nolan are enjoying married life following their beautiful autumn wedding in Belfast.
At the time Laura was working at a bakery in Bangor, Co Down, and Mark was working at a building site across the road from it.
Within months mutual friends passed their phone numbers to each other and they went on a first date at Grace Neill's pub and restaurant in Donaghadee.
They fell in love and in April last year Mark (31), a building engineer, and Laura (29), now a human resources assistant, got engaged.
Mark proposed at his 30th birthday party in Malmaison, Belfast.
“He had booked a private dining room,” Laura said.
“Twenty four of our close friends and family were there.
“When we got there he had booked a suite, too.
“I just thought he wanted to treat himself on his birthday, but then he got down on one knee and proposed in front of everyone.”
A shocked Laura accepted the marriage proposal and the couple organised their October 6 wedding together.
“We had our civil ceremony and reception at Ten Square,” Laura said. “It was amazing. The hotel was fantastic. We had a great day.
“We made everything really personal to us.
“Mark loves Converse so he got a personalised pair (of trainers) made for the day and we also had our favourite cocktails served at the drinks reception.”
As a special treat for her new husband on their wedding day, Laura played the saxophone for him, accompanied by a pianist.
“I played sax at school and Mark had bought me one for our first anniversary,” Laura said.
“I surprised him by playing Summertime.”
Following their wedding the Nolans headed to Hong Kong and Vietnam for their honeymoon.
“It was a holiday of a lifetime,” Laura said.
“We travelled about to see as much as we could.
“We were lucky to get going on honeymoon at all, because Mark had broken his heel on his stag do and only got the cast off a week or so before the wedding.”
Laura said she is getting used to being called Mrs Nolan and the newlyweds are looking forward to Christmas.
“Being married isn't really any different,” Laura added.
“But it's nice to know we've completed the puzzle.”
Someone will steal credit for your work, which is maddening. Drawing attention to the problem will only make you look petty. You're better off accepting the situation with quiet dignity and grace. Move on to the next assignment, but make sure to sign your name to every piece of work that is submitted. Tell your boss what you are doing on a regular basis. You'll sound like a pest, but at least it's better than getting stabbed in the back.More
