Philip and Alison Cosgrove, from Newtownabbey, fell in love after meeting on a dating website. Philip (44), a baker, and Alison (37), a health trust research manager, had their first date in August 2010.

“I had only been using the website for a week and it was Philip's last day on it,” Alison said.

“Our first date was at Ten Square in Belfast city centre. We nearly didn't meet because Philip's phone wasn't working that day and I didn't see him at the bar, so I was on my way out when we spotted each other.”

Romance blossomed and, in March 2011, the couple were enjoying a weekend break in Ballycastle when the topic of marriage came up.

Alison picked out an engagement ring and, in May 2011, Philip got down on one knee and popped the big question at the Templeton Hotel in Templepatrick.

The couple knew they wanted a winter wedding and didn't want to wait another year, so they set about arranging their special day straight away.

They decided to have their wedding service and reception for 65 guests on Saturday, December 10, 2011, at Galgorm Manor in Ballymena.

“The whole day was wonderful,” Alison said. “Everyone enjoyed it. It went so fast, it just flew in.

“We have three kids between us, so Philip's son was best man, his daughter was bridesmaid, along with my sister, and my wee girl was flower girl.

“We had taken dance lessons and our first dance was to The Drifters’ Some Kind Of Wonderful.”

The new Mr and Mrs Cosgrove then flew to Tenerife for a relaxing week-long honeymoon.

They said it was great to get away together and arrive back home in time for a family Christmas.

“Married life is great, we're settling into it very well,” added Alison.

“We're very similar to each other, almost identical in a lot of ways.

“We didn't waste any time. We met and that was it. It's been a whirlwind romance.”
