It was love at first sight for Catriona Carlin (32), and Stephen McParland (39), even though it was a slow romance to start.
The couple had both worked for the same company for five years before they eventually noticed each other and after that it was full steam ahead.
Catriona said: “We met in work but never really noticed each other until we had to work beside each other but then it was love at first sight.
“We haven’t looked back since and will be together seven years this August.”
Catriona said: “Stephen took me away for a romantic break to Harvey’s Point in Donegal and proposed on New Year’s Eve.
“We had talked about getting engaged but I didn’t expect it then, he did the traditional thing and got down on one knee.”
The couple tied the knot with family and friends on May 12, 2012 at St Bernard's Chapel in Glengormley, and afterwards celebrated with a stylish reception in the Templeton Hotel in Templepatrick.
Catriona said she was delighted with her special day and would happily do it all over again.
“I wouldn’t change a thing about my day. Everything was perfect and I would do it all again,” she said.
The McParlands decided against a beach honeymoon and travelled to America for a 10-night stay.
“We had been to Mexico before and as neither of us wanted a beach honeymoon we went to Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York. We wanted to see a few places and we thought America was the place to do it.”
The couple have a two-year-old daughter Olivia — and Stephen has a 15-year-old daughter, Eve, from a previous relationship.
Catriona said: “It was awful leaving Olivia, I would never do it again. When we rang home to speak to her, she kept asking for us to bring her crayons.”
Stephen’s eldest daughter Eve McCann was one of the couple’s bridesmaids and Catriona said: “Eve did her daddy proud on the day. She was beautiful.”
An intimate relationship is coming to an end. This break will be sudden and disturbing. Resist the urge to patch things up. Right now, your differences are irreconcilable. You're better off going solo for a while. Rediscovering your independence will give you fresh confidence. Suddenly, it won't be so intimidating to go after the career you want. Applying for a job in the art or non-profit arena will be gratifying. You'll enjoy work aimed at making the world a better place.More
