Pamela Ballantine talks fashion and beauty ahead of The Wedding Journal Show
Thursday Feb 16 2012
The Wedding Journal Show comes to Belfast’s Kings Hall once again from February 24th-26th, where brides-to-be can experience everything they could possibly need to prepare for their big day.
UTV’s Pamela Ballantine returns as host of The Belfast Telegraph Style Stage and will be introducing show goers to a whole host of experts from the fashion and beauty world. With that in mind, we chatted to the glamorous TV presenter, to find out what fashion and beauty mean to her.
Is fashion a big part of your life?
Yes, I like to look at fashion and see what the latest designs are from the various fashion weeks. I like to try and be fashionable but I also like to be appropriately dressed and I know what styles and colours suit me – you will not be seeing me in this season’s yellow!
Who is your favourite designer?
I love Vivienne Westwood! Her use of shape and fabric is amazing and she always manages to break with convention while flattering most figures. Her shoes are amazing! I have four different pairs of hers in my wardrobe at the moment.
What is your favourite boutique?
Would you believe I am not a great shopper? I don’t usually go out on a shopping trip, unless I am in New York. I do love Candy Plum in Hillsborough and Cubana on the Lisburn Road, Belfast, as they stock labels that you don’t usually see in other boutiques. I recently had a great afternoon with Rebecca, the Personal Stylist in Victoria Square, who selected items from lots of different stores that I would not normally have tried.
What is your favourite highstreet store?
I think H&M and Zara are great for basics and classic looks which have been inspired by the catwalks. Also LK Bennett and Ted Baker. I do love a bargain, so you will often find me in Dunnes and Primark.
What is your most prized piece of clothing?
I have a fabulous shearling coat I bought in the Design Centre in Powerscourt in Dublin. I saw it before lunch, had a couple of glasses of wine and went back after lunch to buy it! Wine has a lot to answer for!
Have you ever had a total fashion disaster? Tell us about it.
How does a mustard coloured two piece sound? Culottes and matching blouse! Truly ghastly! And I once helped a friend who was studying design at The College of Art by modeling a green all in one jumpsuit with a hood! I looked like a tree frog!
What’s the best piece of fashion advice you have received?
When putting together an outfit, if you aren’t sure how it looks, take off the last thing you put on as often “less is more.” On that score, if you have good legs and good cleavage show them off! But never both at the same time.
Describe your beauty regime.
I take my make up off with wipes, then cleanse, tone and moisturize my face every night before bed no matter how tired and emotional I am. I cleanse and moisturise every morning.
What are your favourite make up products?
I use Clarins Extra Firming Foundations in different tones depending on the time of year and how much colour I have on my face.
What are your favourite skincare products?
I use Boots No7 products and have invested recently in a couple of anti-aging and anti-wrinkle creams and products. Clarins Beauty Flash Balm gives that extra glow too.
What is your top beauty tip?
Live a pure life! Truthfully though, I do drink a lot of water every day. I also think that being happy in yourself shows on the outside too.
