Not only are Northern Ireland men "the ugliest in the world" .... but they also come up with some of the cheesiest chat-up lines, according to a survey.

The research, carried out for Dale Farm Dromona Cheese, suggests males under the age of 35 were most likely to use a chat-up line with 62% of all men surveyed showing a penchant for the once deemed cringe-worthy conversation openers.

The phrases most likely to grace the lips of would-be Casanovas were “Are you a parking ticket? Because you have fine written all over you!” and “Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?” , according to the survey of over 100 respondents commissioned ahead of Valentine’s Day , with “Your dad must be a thief because he stole the stars and put them in your eyes!" polling a close third.

Among the female population 80% claimed they’d never use a ‘line’ themselves.

The most irritating chat-up line “Grab your coat- you’ve pulled!”

Brian Beattie from Dale Farm’s Dromona Cheese said, “Our research has clearly shown that when it comes to breaking the ice the younger generation are favouring ‘old school’ techniques and reviving the cheesy chat-up line"
