I doubt doctor's advice

I am 83 years old and have lived on my own since my husband died. My doctor has said I have irritable bowel syndrome and told me to include more roughage in my diet.
However, I have read an article that says this is wrong and that roughage may be the problem.
Now I am not sure whether I should believe my doctor and I am concerned about some of the other things he has said. AD

The trouble with irritable bowel syndrome is that quite often what helps one person makes the condition worse for others.
I would suggest that you go back to your doctor and discuss things with him.
There are branded medications that may help and some people find that relaxation techniques also make a difference.
However, there is no harm in increasing your roughage first as this, generally, is good for most people. Perhaps that is why your doctor has suggested it first.
