Liam Neeson has been voted sexiest Irishman

Women in the UK chose diminutive Dermot O’Leary as their ultimate Valentine’s hunk, but Irish women clearly prefer their men with more inches as they voted 6 ft 4 " Liam Neeson as their sexiest man alive.

Over 22% of Irish women chose the Co Antrim father of two who turns 60 this year as their ultimate hunk. Michael Fassbender who missed out on a BAFTA and a Golden Globe loses out again by coming only fourth in the poll, with fellow Hollywood heart-throb Colin Farrell taking second place, and new blood Bressie, judge on The Voice making a respectable third place.

A quarter of women surveyed by Ladbrokes said they would trade in their partner for one night with their favourite celebrity. But Irish men have a lot to prove in the romantic stakes today as 65% of women polled agreed that Irish men are not romantic.

In a similar poll conducted in the UK X FACTOR presenter Dermot O'Leary proved he has the X factor after he topped a poll of the nation's women asking them to name their top TV Valentine. The star, whose parents hail from Ireland, got 14% of the vote in the search to find the small screen's most fanciable man.

He picked up more than twice the votes of his closest contender for the title, Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch, who got 6%, narrowly ahead of Strictly Come Dancing winner Harry Judd (5.4%). O’Leary is set to marry his long term girlfriend TV producer Dee Koppang later this year after popping the question on a romantic break in New York last autumn.
