400 to be laid off at Limerick plant

There are fears of more job losses in Limerick.

SIPTU expect up to 400 workers to be laid off at RR Donnelly - formerly Banta - as a direct result of Dell's decision to cease manufacturing at its nearby facility in Raheen.

Although the company has yet to make a formal announcement, the union says workers have been told that as contracts with Dell are phased out during the year, operations at RR Donnelly will also wind down.

The company, which prepares kits for shipping with Dell computers, also built a new plant in Lodz in Poland around the same time as Dell.
