Andre magazine cover up for award
Barack Obama and Peter Andre are going up against a heavy metal band dripping with blood with their flesh ripped off for a top magazine award.
The stars feature on the covers of five magazines which have been shortlisted for the Maggie Awards which reward the best cover of the past year.
They include an image of rock act Slayer, created by Metal Hammer mag, in which the four musicians' skulls and jawbones are exposed.
The cover is up against Peter Andre on the front of Heat, Barack and Michelle Obama on Hello!, Empire's cover featuring Avatar and a Radio Times cover with Coronation Street actress Katherine Kelly.
The public will now be able to choose their favourite cover for the award created by the Periodical Publishers Association
The gruesome Metal Hammer shot was created with the help of a Harry Potter prosthetic expert and photographic know-how to blend ceramic skulls with the faces of Slayer to show four different wounds.
Editor Alexander Milas said: "Slayer are truly one of the greatest, most ferocious and iconic metal bands of all time, and their brand of blackened thrash has been making heads bang around the world for decades."
The Radio Times shot recast Corrie barmaid Becky as the woman at the centre of Manet's A Bar at the Folies-Bergere.
Votes for the covers can be cast at www.themaggies.co.uk/vote/ and the winner will be announced later in the year.
