Coyle relished Pratchett role

Richard Coyle has revealed he relished the old-fashioned themes of Sir Terry Pratchett's fantasy stories.

The Coupling star plays con artist Moist von Lipwig, who is saved from hanging and sent to work in a post office, in Sky's all-star adaptation of Pratchett's book Going Postal.

Coyle said: "I think he has a huge amount of respect for the old-fashioned way of doing things and I think people respond to that. I think he's concerned with finding the soul, like I said that's Moist's journey, but I think he does look for the soul in Mr Everyman and I think we've lost a bit of that in our society, we're losing a bit of community I think, and he's concerned with those things that we've all cherished for so many years."

The show has a few hints of fetishism, with whips and heels included in the costume, but Coyle insists it is all in good spirits.

He said: "Oh that stuff, it's all done with a very loving wink and a nod, he knows perfectly well and it's terrific, it's really nice to embrace all that stuff and nod at the audience and wink at the audience, I think it's great."

:: Going Postal is on Sky1 HD and Sky1 on May 30 and 31.
