Sofia Vergara joins Smurfs movie

Sofia Vergara is the latest star to join the cast of The Smurfs.

The Modern Family beauty will play cosmetics executive Odile in the movie adaptation of the 80s cartoon about a race of little blue people, says the Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog.

Odile is married to the live action character played by How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris.

Glee actress Jayma Mays and The Simpsons' Hank Azaria also have parts in the Smurfs film, which is being directed by Raja Gosnell and is expected to be released in 2011.

It was previously reported that I Kissed A Girl singer Katy Perry had signed up to voice Smurfette.

Jonathan Winters, who voiced multiple characters on the long-running Hanna-Barbera cartoon, is thought to be playing Papa Smurf while Alan Cumming is taking on Gutsy Smurf.
