Driver killed after failing to stop for Gardai in Cork

Gardai in Cork city are investigating a road accident in which the male driver of a car was killed yesterday evening.

It happened on the South Ring Road at 6pm.

Gardai in Glanmire were responding to a complaint of dangerous driving and met a grey Opel Omega which failed to stop when they signalled for it to do so.

It drove off at speed and a short time later collided with the embankment on the South Ring Road.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and his identity has not yet been established.

His body has been taken to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem will take place later today.
